Where do you find the time?
[Disclaimer: this is my first ever blog post, please be kind!]
When you have a new baby some people expect you to stay in the house wearing pajamas all day, taking frequent naps and eating lots of biscuits. I'm not saying that none of my days go like that but I knew pretty early on that wasn't what I wanted parenthood to be for me. With baby unexpectedly in the nicu it was a while before I could take him home and choose to take him outside.
As well as being out of the house people asked me a lot while my baby was very young (and still now) how I found the time to sew. While I was pregnant I read something that said just because you're a Mum, that doesn't mean you have to stop being you, when I stopped going to work this became quite pertinent; I needed something that was for me as a person not just as a mother. I've always been crafty but sewing was never something I was great at... I'd made a few things with a lot of help from my Mum but wasn't confident going it alone... I couldn't even thread my sewing machine on my own! After Isaac was born, I saw an advert on a facebook group I was part of for a local sewing group of Mums making baby clothes, where beginners were welcome. This was great for me to rekindle an old hobby and meet other like-minded Mums :) It was a massive success for me and I urge anyone reading this to take the leap and give a Mums group a go if you can.

Okay, so I didn't get much done quickly but people are always willing to help/ cuddle baby while I do stuff -especially at this age :)
I found that with sewing I didn't have to wait that long see the finished product, unlike with knitting or crocheting which I just don't have the patience for! It was also pretty easy to see how much I'd improve over just a few weeks and didn't take long before I could complete projects independently (and thread that darn sewing machine on my own!). So now Mama Bear sews! [And Papa Bear approves as the holes in his trousers get fixed much faster and better these days!] I'll be posting pictures of projects for ideas, hints and tips /tutorials and general showing off ;]
Mama Bear Out!
Mama Bear Out!
I don’t personally sew but doing something for yourself as a human being rather than a mother is very important so that resonates with me. Very good first blog. I’ve never done a blog but have often thought about it. Xx
